CALGARY – Do you wish you could pick your next meal the way you choose a playlist – by mood or activity? Need a nearby recommendation for “happy hour” or “lunch with coworkers”? Perhaps you want to pick one so you’re “starting the day off right”?

With choices like “Lip-smackin’ Stampede Breakfasts” or “Lazy lunches” curated by a team of local foodies, the YP Dine App launched in Calgary this week, highlighting data from an Ipsos survey released by Yellow Pages.

Almost three quarters of Calgary residents eat at a restaurant or order take out once a week or more, according to the poll. If you thought the drop in oil prices was limiting nights spent out on the town for Calgarians, the survey suggests that’s not the case: 32 per cent of those surveyed dine out more often than two years ago; 52 per cent say they go out about the same amount.

And it seems those who live in YYC like their booze: 31 per cent said they go to a pub or bar at least once each week.

You can choose what activity or mood you’re in before making your restaurant selection on the new YP Dine App, launched in Calgary June 2015. YP Dine App

The YP Dine app aims to help “make new dining discoveries or easily find ideas or suggestions without having a specific location or cuisine in mind,” said Yellow Pages’ chief marketing officer Nicolas Gaudreau in a release.

“YP Dine allows those local food culture [of each region across Canada] to thrive by providing unique content and curated content from local chefs and foodies in each market.”
