Gas leak at construction site in Calgary’s northwest

CALGARY – The Calgary Fire Department said a large gas leak started at a construction site in Calgary’s northwest on Friday afternoon.

Spokesperson Carol Henke said a call came in just before 1 p.m. for a leak at a site near 11A Street and Kensington Road N.W. but the gas has since been shut off.

Police said roads were closed between 11A Street and 14 Street N.W. on eastbound Kensington Road as of 1:30 p.m. as crews continued to clean up the “short-lived” leak.

Police said there was an area evacuation, but everyone had been allowed to return home or to their place of work by 1:30 p.m.
