REGINA – Environment Canada warned that a thunderstorm could possibly produce a tornado for areas in southern Saskatchewan.

The warning was issued at 7:00 p.m. for the R.M. of Montmartre including Assiniboine Res., but was then ended just after 8 p.m.

Severe thunderstorm warnings remain in effect for parts of the province, including Fort Qu’Appelle, Indian Head, Lumsden, Pilot Butte, and Moosomin. Residents in those areas should expect strong winds, heavy rain, and large hail.

It’s part of the same system that brought heavy rain and quarter-sized hail to Regina at about 6:30 p.m.

The storm is tracking southeast around 50 kilometres an hour, but it’s losing steam as it travels.

The storm happened on the first game day of 2015 at Mosaic Stadium. The Saskatchewan Roughrider’s had to clear all the hail from the field before kick-off.
