UPDATE: The fire is under control. West Kelowna fire chief, Jason Brolund, says the fire was spreading quickly before they pounced on it.

“We were starting to see the fire pick up , climb up into the trees a little bit and cover some ground fairly quickly. This is fire behaviour we’re used to in the middle of the summer. It’s definitely early.”

Brolund the cause would appear to be human because there were no lightning strikes in the area.
