It’s a big task, but one 7-year-old Taylor Lawrence is more than ready to take on.
Taylor, along with her Grade one classmates at Lakeview Elementary, have set out to change the world, through art.
The students are creating art pieces depicting the lack of clean water in Africa and other parts of the world. Their goal is to raise money to help build a well in Uganda so people there “will live and not die”, according to one student.

The idea was inspired by Kids Art for a Cause – a local non-profit organization that helps schools sell student art for social causes.
“I think it’s an amazing opportunity for kids to exhibit their art work and showing others what they are capable of doing,” says teacher Deb Firth.
Founder Grant Bertamini started Kids Art for a Cause in the fall of 2014. He challenged his own grade two and three students to sell art pieces for an organization that provides bedding to children in developing countries.
The program has now expanded to schools across Lethbridge. “We’re starting to gain some traction and it’s really awesome,” he said.
“When I started it out, I kind of wasn’t sure how it was going to take, but I’m getting interests from unexpected places which is cool.”
Kids Art for a Cause continues to grow with schools signing up for projects the fall of 2015.
For young Taylor, it’s humbling to know she’s made a difference in someone else’s life. “Really happy for people to have clean water, because people might die without it,” she said.
