TORONTO — Police have charged Syed Mohammed Ali Zaidi, 19, of Toronto in the shooting death of Mahmedaarif “Arif” Patel, 23.
The shooting happened Monday afternoon in the area of 3601 Lawrence Ave. East. Patel was then driven to the area of Lawrence Avenue and Bellamy Road where he succumbed to his injuries in a gas station parking lot.

On Wednesday Zaidi surrendered to police and was charged with second-degree murder along with a number of weapons-related charges. He appeared in court Thursday morning.
Homicide detectives are asking anyone who has any information or who might have witnessed the shooting to contact investigators.
