MOOSE JAW – The friendly city can no longer lay claim to the biggest moose statue in the world.
Mac the Moose has been a tourism symbol for Moose Jaw for the past 30 years. Created by a Saskatchewan artist, he stands 10 meters tall.
But now Norway has a bigger moose – which deliberately stands 30 centimetres taller.
However, Moose Jaw’s mayor isn’t concerned – she says Mac is more established and has a better reputation.
“If someone in Norway is trying to one-up Mac the Moose, I think we’ve won the battle, first and foremost that Mac’s reputation has spread to Norway and beyond. I think that speaks to what an icon for the city of Moose Jaw he’s been,” said Mayor Deb Higgins.
