UPDATE: Brenda Turner says her dog Sula has been returned home safely

A Kelowna woman is pleading for her dog to be returned after suffering a medical distress at a beach in Tsawwassen.

Brenda Turner was out for a walk at the beach with her 13-year-old Maltese Shih Tzu Sula last Tuesday afternoon after dropping her boyfriend off at the ferry terminal, when she felt her heart beating really fast.

Turner started panicking and screamed for help.

There were few people on the beach, so she leaped over the median where cars get off the ferry, hoping someone would hear her cries for help.

“It was all really foggy to me. I don’t recall much of it,” says Turner.

But she does remember a vehicle — that looked like a black SUV — stopping by.

Turner remembers passing Sula to a lady in the car, who said she would take the dog to an SPCA.

She does not remember what happened next or being taken away in an ambulance.

Turner says she woke up in hospital a few days later, not knowing where she was.

And her dog Sula was gone.

Turner says Sula is about 20 pounds, with dark eyes, black tips on her ears and lighter brown fur with a white chest.

Even though she is 13, Sula is very hyper and full of energy, even though, but, Turner says, she is pretty shy with strangers.

Turner has now spoken with every single SPCA and animal shelter in the area. She has also been in touch with Delta police.

She says the beach and ferry terminal is a very busy touristy area with many transient visitors, complicating the search.

Turner believes the woman who may have taken her dog might have thought she was behaving erratically and was not fit to own a dog.

“She probably does not realize I went into medical distress and people are quick to make judgments.”

Turner says Sula has been with her through many years. “I am a little bit lost without her,” she says, choking back the tears. “Sula is a talker. It’s just been really odd having the silence”

She says her only comfort is that someone has Sula and she is not just out there fending for herself.

“I am sure she is missing me, because she does not adapt well to change.”

The family is offering a $500 reward for Sula’s safe return.

“But I would really give anything to get her back,” says Turner.

Anyone with information about Sula’s whereabouts is asked to call Brenda at 250-878-7384 or email at brattysula@live.ca.
