TORONTO — Cher is the new face of Marc Jacobs.
The fashion designer shared a photo on Instagram Wednesday of the 69-year-old singer and actress posing in a pleated black dress, embellished jacket and gloves.
The image, by photographer David Sims, is for Jacobs’ Fall/Winter ad campaign.
“This is just the beginning,” Jacobs wrote on Instagram. “More to come!!”
Late Wednesday, Cher tweeted about the photo.
The collaboration should not come as much of a surprise after Cher accompanied Jacobs to the Met Gala together on May 4.

Shortly after Jacobs posted the campaign photo, his partner Lorenzo Martone took to Instagram to share a photo of the couple posing with Cher following a concert. “Viva Cher!!!!” he wrote in the caption.
There has been a trend recently to feature older celebrities and models in ad campaigns. Barneys New York used Christie Brinkley, 61; L’Oréal hired 65-year-old Twiggy, 69-year-old Helen Mirren and 77-year-old Jane Fonda; J. Crew used Lauren Hutton, 71; Saint Laurent featured Joni Mitchell, 71; and Céline hired 80-year-old Joan Didion.
Last year, Jacobs chose actress Jessica Lange, then 65, as the face of Marc Jacobs Beauty.
The designer told The New York Times he has long been an admirer of Cher.
“Other boys were out fascinated by other things,” he said. “I was like, no, I’d really much rather see what Cher’s wearing this week.”
