Citing illness, Suge Knight refuses to leave cell for court

LOS ANGELES — A judge has delayed a hearing in Suge Knight’s robbery case after the former rap music mogul told deputies he was too sick to leave his jail cell.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Ronald Coen says he almost ordered Marion “Suge” Knight forcibly removed from his downtown Los Angeles cell for Wednesday’s hearing. But he instead delayed the proceedings to coincide with a Friday hearing in Knight’s murder case.

The 50-year-old Death Row Records co-founder is charged along with comedian Katt Williams with stealing a celebrity photographer’s camera in September. Both men have pleaded not guilty.

Knight has no attorney in the robbery case, and Coen says he might appoint him counsel at Friday’s hearing.
