Earlier this month, three men fishing in the Adriatic Sea off the coast of Croatia made a remarkable discovery: a baby dolphin, tangled and trapped in a fishing line while its mother looked on helplessly.

Using a knife, the men cut the young dolphin loose while one of the fishermen recorded the scene on his phone.

The men later told the European Broadcasting Union that after being freed, the dolphin mother and child swam circles around their boat, a gesture they interpreted as gratitude.
