Signs that are less than a square-metre in area and placed between the sidewalk and curb can be removed. The city said for safety reasons it doesn’t want residents removing signs from median or traffic islands.

Residents can call 311 to take care of any signs they aren’t able to remove themselves, or to report a nuisance sign. The city also apparently has an app in the works to help report the signs.

Real estate, open house and election signs are protected, as are garage sale signs for events that have not yet happened.
