Police looking for driver of car gutted by flames in Surrey

RCMP cruiser extensively damaged after being rammed, attacked by a man with an axe near Canora, Sask. File / Global News

An accident that left a vehicle completely gutted by flames has the Surrey RCMP looking for its driver.

It happened around 3 a.m. Sunday on the South Fraser Perimeter Road, just east of the Port Mann Bridge.

Police say an SUV went out of control, striking the median.

The vehicle apparently had a large portable fuel tank in the trunk, which burst into flames.

The driver fled the scene.

Police can’t say yet if the vehicle was stolen.
