MIRAMICHI, N.B. – The shuttered Weyerhaeuser mill in Miramichi, N.B. has been sold nearly five years after it was closed down by the company.

Weyerhaeuser spokesman Wayne Roznowsky says the company completed a sale to Quebec-based Arbec Forest Products in late November.

Roznowksy says “it’s our understanding” that Arbec has plans to re-start the mill, but he has no other details on the Quebec company’s plans.

Weyerhaeuser closed its oriented strand board mill in Miramichi in 2007, cutting 140 positions.

Arbec abandoned plans to take over the mill back in 2009 after it couldn’t get enough wood to operate the facility.
