N.S. man dies after ski accident at Sugarloaf Mountain

HALIFAX – A skier from Nova Scotia died Thursday following an accident at Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine.

Police in Carrabassett Valley, M.E. say 41-year-old David Morse of Kingston, N.S. struck a tree shortly after 3:30 p.m. while skiing the Lower Timberline trail.

The trail was marked as “green circle” denoting it was one of the mountain’s easier tracks. Morse’s death is the ski hill’s first fatality of the season.

The Bangor Daily News reports Morse, who was in the area with his wife and two children, died in an ambulance just after 5:00 p.m. en route to Franklin Memorial Hospital, about 50 minutes away in the town of Farmington. 

Sugarloaf officials say Morse was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the conducted to determine the cause of his death.
