Saskatchewan’s unemployment rate drops in April

OTTAWA – Saskatchewan continues to have the lowest unemployment rate in Canada. Statistics Canada reported Friday the jobless rate in the province was 4.3 per cent in April, down one-tenth of a percentage from the previous month.

The Saskatchewan government said it’s the nineteenth straight month the province has had the lowest unemployment rate in Canada.

According to Statistics Canada, the provincial economy added 2,500 jobs in April, pushing the number of people working up to 575,400, an increase of 7,800 from April 2013.

Gains were made in both full-time (1,000) and part-time (1,400) last month.

Nationally, the unemployment rate held steady at 6.8 per cent with the economy shedding 20,000 jobs in April.
