EDMONTON – Alberta Health Services postponed several surgeries Monday after receiving an email “that has led to further investigation requiring assistance by (the) Edmonton Police Service.”
In an emailed statement, AHS said 23 surgeries were postponed at three Edmonton facilities, including the University of Alberta Hospital, the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute and the Stollery Children’s Hospital.

AHS did not elaborate on the details of the email it received.
“The safety and care of patients, their families and our staff is our primary concern, and we will continue to make sure this is upheld,” read the AHS statement.
Health officials said the decision to postpone the surgeries was a precautionary measure. Emergency surgeries at these sites will go ahead, AHS added.
