SASKATOON – Adam Morrison made the jump from the Saskatoon Hilltops to the Saskatchewan Huskies a season ago, transitioning seamlessly from junior football to the university game on the defensive line.

This season, Morrison is once again switching things up, now lining up on the other side of the ball.

“We are a little bit thin with veteran offensive tackles,” admits Huskies head coach Brian Towriss, which led to Morrison switching sides.

“We wanted to give him an opportunity to see what he could do there and it also gives us versatility on the road.”

Morrison, standing six-foot seven, certainly has the size to play offensive tackle, although he says prior to the winter workouts, he hadn’t lined up on the o-line since Grade 9 and there has been plenty to learn.

“It’s one of the most technical positions I’ve ever played,” says the hulking Morrison.

“I got to get used to not always burying my head and going forward. There is just so much technique. So much more footwork. Hand placement is a little bit different. There is a lot to it for sure.”

A season ago, Morrison had to prove himself at spring camp because he was one of the new guys. This spring, once again the spotlight is on the former Hilltop as he attempts to earn a starting gig at a new position.

“The next couple of days are huge,” Morrison says of the five-day spring camp.

“I have to prove to the coaches that I do belong on the o-line. I got to go out there and make an impact. Everyone wants to start and I want to start at o-line. I have to go out there and prove I can be a starter.”

Morrison has just a couple of practices left to leave a lasting impression heading into the summer. The green and white scrimmage wraps up spring camp on Sunday.
