VERNON – There are big concerns of safety versus convenience in Vernon. The intersection at Highway 97 and Stickle Road is a busy one and the site of several accidents, many of them involving left-hand turns.
There are so many accidents, that nearby businesses and residents want a traffic light put in. However, the Ministry of Transportation says there aren’t enough vehicles making left-hand turns at the intersection to warrant a traffic light. Instead, the ministry’s plan is to remove left turns in both directions of the highway, leaving only right turns.

Many nearby businesses and residents are opposed to that idea, saying without the left-turn option, all that’s left is a detour. One that is inconvenient for residents and visitors, but could also discourage customers from going to nearby businesses.
