Halifax company charged after employee falls from roof of building and dies

HALIFAX – A Halifax company has been charged in the workplace death of a 47-year-old man.

Nova Scotia’s Labour Department says Shaun McInnis was working on the roof of a four-storey complex when he fell from the edge on May 9, 2013.

Truss Worthy Framing and Renovations faces a number of charges under the province’s Occupational Health and Safety Act.

They include failing to ensure the health and safety of people at a workplace and failing to ensure employees are using fall-protection equipment.

David Busk Sr., the owner of the company, has also been charged with failing to provide the health and safety of employees at a workplace and failing to ensure protective devices, equipment or clothing are used or worn.

Arraignment has been set for June 2.
