Alberta Election 2015: NDP’s Craig Coolahan wins Calgary-Klein

Craig Coolahan has taken the riding of Calgary-Klein for the NDP.

Coolahan had won 46.5 per cent of the vote in early results, as of 8:47 PM election night. This was well ahead of his nearest opponent, PC incumbent Kyle Fawcett, who had 27 per cent.

This means that this riding, named after former PC premier Ralph Klein, has officially gone orange.

The north-central riding of Calgary-Klein was created in the 2010 boundary redistribution using portions of Calgary-Nose Hill and Calgary-North Hill, the latter held by the PCs since 1971.

The riding includes the communities of  Cambrian Heights, Capitol Hill, Collingwood, Triwood, Greenview, Thorncliff, Highland Park, Highwood, Mount Pleasant, North Haven, Rosemont, Tuxedo Park, Winston Heights and Mountainview.

Candidates:

  • Green Party of Alberta: Noel Keough
  • Liberal: David Gamble
  • NDP: Craig Coolahan
  • Progressive Conservative: Kyle Fawcett (incumbent)
  • Wildrose: Jeremy Nixon
