WINNIPEG – It’s a chance for sports fans to enjoy a few drinks a little longer.

The Liquor and Gaming Authority of Manitoba authorized a one-time extension for bars and restaurants, allowing them to serve alcohol until 3:00 a.m. Sunday and stay open until 4:00 a.m.

This is all because of the late start to the Winnipeg Jets’ second playoff game Saturday night in Anaheim, California.

“If the Jets win and everyone’s roaring in here and its a good time, last thing you want to do is last call… so we can keep people around and having a good time and in a safe area,” said Earls manager Sabrina Kelly.

Since the Jets made the playoffs, downtown bars have been jam packed and are constantly increasing staff, food and drinks.

“It’s been 19 years and we get to experience this so its very exciting from our point as well to see everyone come in here and be so excited for their home team,” said Boston Pizza manager Crystal Kuchirka.

Local restaurants are also looking forward to staying open later with increased clientele.

“We’re normally open until 10 but… if someone comes in at 9:59 we’re going to give you the full service and everything you’d expect to have even if you came in right at opening,” said Old Spaghetti Factory owner Rob Henschel.

And fans are hoping as playoffs continue, there will be more extended hours to enhance the experience.

“Even when they can’t get to the arena, the closer they get to the arena they’re going to enjoy it,” said Jets fan Chandra Vesa.

Puck drop is at 9:30 p.m. central time and you can bet many fans will be cheering long after the final whistle.
