Aecon awarded K+S Potash Canada contract for mining project work

TORONTO – Aecon Group announced Friday they have been awarded two contracts worth $110 million for work in its mining segment. One of the contracts is for the K+S Potash legacy mining project near Bethune, Sask.

According to Aecon officials, the work for Saskatoon-based K+S includes the installation of process mechanical equipment, piping, electrical and instrumentation systems for the load-out building.

Work is expected to start during the second-quarter of 2015, with a completion date in the second-quarter of 2016.

Aecon has previously done work on the north tank farm and the evaporator, crystallization and clarification plant portion of the project.

The K+S legacy project is the first new greenfield potash mine to be built in Saskatchewan in over forty years. Commissioning on the mine is scheduled to start in the summer of 2016.

The second contract is for general site services at Vale Newfoundland & Labrador Limited’s Long Harbour processing plant.
