‘Orange is the new blue’: new Medicine Hat NDP candidate Bob Wanner

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — The Alberta NDP have named a new candidate for a riding in Medicine Hat. Former city commissioner, Bob Wanner, will run in the riding left vacant when the previous candidate withdrew after being charged with assault.

A 50-year-old man has alleged that Jason Soklofske assaulted him when he refused to let the politician into an apartment building last weekend.

Soklofske, who withdrew his candidacy after he was charged on Saturday, has not commented.

Wanner says there’s a desire for change both locally and provincially and believes local support for the NDP is still strong.

Other candidates vying for the riding are Jim Black of the Alberta Party, Val Olson for the Wildrose, and Blake Pedersen for the Progressive Conservatives.

“You look around, orange is the new blue in this town and we haven’t lost any momentum in terms of the discussions we’ve had with the public thus far,” Wanner said Tuesday.
