SASKATOON – A cyclist is in serious condition in a Saskatoon hospital after he was hit by a transit bus Thursday evening. It happened just after 9 p.m. on Arlington Avenue just north of Taylor Street.
Firefighters had to use hydraulic rescue tools to free the cyclist, who is between 30 and 40, from beneath the front of the bus.
He was taken to Royal University Hospital with what police say are serious injuries. There is no word on his current condition.
Saskatoon transit officials issued a statement after the collision.
“At last word the cyclist’s injuries are described as serious and Saskatoon Transit extends its compassion for the cyclist and his loved ones at this difficult time,” said Trevor Bell, the acting director of Saskatoon Transit.
Bell stated Saskatoon Transit is cooperating with the police investigation and will also be conducting its own investigation to ensure proper operating procedures were maintained.
