Person in custody after high-risk situation in Didsbury

File / Global News

EDMONTON — Didsbury RCMP and the Emergency Response Team have taken one person into custody in the wake of a situation involving a high-risk suspect.

Officers in the central Alberta town had been asking some residents to stay inside and avoid sharing information on social media.

Didsbury RCMP tried to execute a search warrant at a home in the 24 Street area at 9:15 a.m.

Police were unable to communicate with the resident, identified as a “high-risk suspect,” so the area around the house was contained for safety reasons while officers continued to try and contact the person.

Police asked nearby residents to stay inside and keep their doors and windows locked. Police also asked other people to stay away from the area.

RCMP stressed that the situation was not a police exercise or entertainment filming, but a serious, ongoing event that had not been secured.
