EDMONTON — Alcohol is believed to be a factor in an early morning, single-vehicle crash in north Edmonton that sent two people to hospital.

Around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday a black pickup truck lost control while turning a corner, careening up onto a raised concrete sidewalk and hitting a building.

“The truck was travelling westbound on 127 Avenue,” said Acting Staff Sgt. Chris Barbar, Edmonton police. “When it approached 127 Street, it appears it did not make the corner and just collided with the building.”

A glass window was shattered at the front of the Society of United Mexicans in Edmonton on 127 Street. The two people inside the truck were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The truck was heavily damaged in the crash. The front end was crumpled in and the driver’s side door could be seen laying several feet from the truck. It did not look like any airbags went off during the crash.

The intersection of 127 Avenue and 127 Street was closed to traffic while police investigated the crash, and Edmonton police asked drivers to avoid the area on Thursday morning.
