KELOWNA – After hearing several misconceptions about the religion, one Okanagan resident is trying to bridge the gap between his fellow Muslims and non-Muslims. UBC Okanagan student Adnan Bhat is hoping that can be accomplished with a public forum.
“Considering the events that have been happening in the world which have gotten Islam into the spotlight, there is a stigma around the religion of Islam,” says Bhat.
Bhat says the basics of the religion will be discussed at the event which is called “What is Islam All About?” He says it will also be an opportunity for people to ask questions about the religion. Bhat says his goal is to make sure the event is a positive one and that people walk away with a better understanding of what Islam is.
The Islam awareness event will be held at the Holiday Inn Express Conference Centre in Kelowna on Sunday at 5p.m.
