Sask. Mounties Taser distraught man on Highway 16

MAIDSTONE, Sask. – A man who brought traffic to a halt on a Saskatchewan highway had to be Tasered by Mounties. It happened Tuesday afternoon on Highway 16 near Lashburn.

Police say they received multiple 911 calls around 7:40 p.m. of a distraught man on the highway running into traffic. The driver of a westbound bus had to take evasive action to avoid the man.

When the bus stopped, the distraught man confronted the driver and passengers.

When officers arrived, they found the man being restrained by several people in a nearby ditch. Police attempted to arrest the man under the Mental Health Act but he resisted.

Mounties eventually had to use the Taser to subdue the man and take him into custody. He was taken to a Lloydminster hospital where he currently remains in the custody of RCMP. No charges have been laid.

The driver of the bus was treated for a minor injury. No other injuries were reported.

Highway 16 westbound in the area was closed for 30 minutes.
