The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is looking into the death of a man who died in police custody Wednesday afternoon. He has now been identified as Kevin Seiji Mukuyama, aged 42.
RCMP Insp. Ed Boettcher says Chilliwack RCMP responded to a report of a man stabbing a dog in the 9700 block of Oak St. It is alleged the suspect struggled with officers, who used a Taser before arresting him. Once under arrest, Mukuyama appeared unresponsive and was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
An officer was treated for injuries and has been released from hospital.
The dog has been taken to a vet for medical treatment.
