VERNON – A former Vernon Mountie accused of child pornography offenses may seek to have his trial moved to another city.
Ryan Hampton, 35, is facing nine charges including accessing and possessing child pornography and obstruction of justice.
During a court appearance Monday, Hampton’s lawyer said it would be entirely inappropriate to hold the trial in Vernon.
That’s because Hampton, who is in custody, would have to be held in the cell blocks at his former workplace for the duration of the trial.
After his arrest last June, Hampton was suspended from the RCMP with senior officers saying there would be a hearing to try to dismiss him.
He has since resigned.
In a separate matter, Hampton was arrested last month in Alberta and charged with impaired driving and possessing stolen RCMP equipment.
