CALGARY – One woman was injured as she jumped from a burning building in the community of Dover on Thursday.
The Calgary Fire Department was called to a blaze at a fourplex along Doverdale Mews S.E. just after midnight.
When they arrived, firefighters were met by a woman who had escaped the fire, which sparked in her suite, by crawling out the second-storey window and dropping to the ground below.
She was treated for minor injuries and later transported to hospital by paramedics.
Firefighters attacked the fire from the exterior of the building, and later entered the fourplex to check if there were any residents still inside.
Although no victims were found, crews did find a dog in the affected suite which was removed and treated for smoke inhalation, and then taken to the animal hospital.
The fire department says damage to the suite where the fire originated was significant.
Flames also spread to an adjacent fourplex causing minor damage to the exterior, electrical meter, and gas meter.
Calgary police say the fire is being investigated as suspicious.
