MONTREAL — In February, Jessica Laventure, Weather Specialist for the Morning News on Global Montreal, spoke to a group of Roslyn Elementary students about her job and answered their questions.
The students learned quite a bit about Jessica and what it takes to be a weather forecaster on a morning show.
“I really enjoy talking to young people about my job and the weather, because they are so passionate about the things they are curious about and so am I.”
Jessica attended Boucherville Elementary School, an English-language school on Montreal’s south shore.
As a student she loved reading and writing and was quite chatty and a bit of a day dreamer.
She has always been interested in the weather; discovering the different types of clouds, learning where rain came from and finding out how some people could tell when it was going to rain or snow.
Jessica also shared with the students some of the qualities that are good to have if you want to pursue a career as a weather specialist on TV.

“You should obviously be interested in weather, enjoy science and the outdoors, be friendly, curious and a good public speaker,” she said.
“You’ll need to be a good role model, because people will recognize you.”
Each weekday morning, Jessica wakes up at 3:00 a.m. to bring Montrealers their first look at the day’s weather, joining Richard Dagenais and Camille Ross on the Morning News on Global Montreal.
Jessica told the students her job has allowed her to meet some fascinating people, including Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre and astronaut Chris Hadfield.
Jessica told the students about an upcoming contest at Global Montreal that will give kids the opportunity to join her for a live weather broadcast on the Morning News.
The contest is open to all Montreal area students between the ages of 8 and 13.
