WARNING: Full video of rescue contains some foul language.
VANCOUVER – Some dramatic new video has been posted online by a man from Vancouver Island, who crashed his car and then recorded his own rescue.
Andrew MacDonald blacked out at the wheel on Jan. 11 at 5:30 a.m. but woke up in time to film the firefighters cutting him out of his vehicle.
Crews used the Jaws of Life to rescue MacDonald, who was trapped in his car in Duncan. MacDonald posted the video to YouTube, saying he drove straight into a power pole at 60 km’s an hour. He was left with a broken right arm, a broken left femur, two broken knee caps and shattered ankles.
In the video, he can be heard talking to the first responders. At one point, he said he just wants to go to sleep, and is told ‘not yet.’
MacDonald spent the past month in hospital. Police say he has not been charged with anything in relation to the crash.
