WINNIPEG – Winnipeg Jets centre and Team Canada member Mark Scheifele surprised a lucky group of kids Monday evening.
Scheifele was named Team KidSport Athlete Ambassador for KidSport Winnipeg and celebrated by practicing with the Dakota Lazers 9A2 team at the Terry Sawchuk Memorial Arena.
Scheifele has represented Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships twice and was Winnipeg’s first round draft pick in 2011 and is excited to help out with the KidSport organization. “Growing up sports was such a big part of my life I met so many close friends, I learned so many lessons playing in sports and to be able to help out with something like this it’s huge and it really hits me in the heart,” says Sheifele.

“I don’t think you can get a better KidSport Athlete Ambassador than Mark Scheifele. He’s the face of the Jets franchise and as a Manitoban and a Winnipegger you can’t help but love the guy. And he’s genuine right through,” says Mike Witoski with KidSport Winnipeg.
KidSport Winnipeg and Mark Scheifele have already announced plans for two fundraisers. The first is a two day hockey camp scheduled for June 20th and June 21st and a golf tournament on June 22nd. For more information on these events visit the KidSport website here.
