Environment Canada ends extreme cold warning for Southern Ontario

TORONTO – Environment Canada has ended an extreme cold warning for Southern Ontario, including the Greater Toronto Area.

However, an extreme cold weather alert continues for the City of Toronto.

The national weather office said the bitterly cold arctic air combined with light northerly winds will create wind chills of -30 to -35 degrees Celsius Monday morning.

Conditions are expected to improve as temperatures rise to a high of -12, but closer to -25 with the wind chill.

The overnight low will hit -15.

The cold weather caused a number of watermain breaks across the city, including one at the MasterCard Centre, the Toronto Maple Leafs’ training facility.

A number of flights have been cancelled at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport as a result of the cold weather.

Travelers are being advised to check the flight status before arriving at the airport.
