EDMONTON — Oiler fans know all too well the many Oilers who were doing cartwheels when they were traded out of Edmonton. Janne Niinimaa was the exact opposite.

Niinimaa was crushed when he was traded to the New York Islanders in 1999. He never wanted to leave. Now he’s back and playing in The World’s Longest Hockey Game.

“I told Brent when I retired from pro hockey I would play this game,” said Niinimaa after a four-hour shift at Saiker’s Acres.
