Charges laid in North Van school prank

Two teenage students of a North Vancouver high school are facing criminal charges after a prank left students and staff out in the cold.

RCMP say twice this past May, two young men snuck onto the grounds of Handsworth Secondary School, and posted a note on the front door saying there was a bomb inside.

On May 5 and again on May 20, police responded to prevent students and staff from entering the school.

Each time, officers and the RCMP bomb dog spent hours searching the school, only to turn up empty-handed.

“The safety of students and staff is taken very seriously in our schools,” said Cpl. Richard De Jong of the North Vancouver RCMP. “Thankfully there were no injuries as the threats were meant as a prank, which did cause considerable impact on the operation of the school.”
