TORONTO – There is speculation that Egyptian-Canadian journalist Mohamed Fahmy will be released from a Cairo prison Tuesday.

On Monday it was announced he had relinquished his Egyptian citizenship as part of a deal to gain his freedom.

His fiancee, Marwa Omara, told The Canadian Press that it was a very difficult decision for him because Fahmy is a proud Egyptian.

He and two other Al Jazeera reporters, Australian Peter Greste and Egyptian Baher Mohamed, were arrested in December of 2013. The three were accused of aiding the Muslim Brotherhood — which they deny.

Greste, who was released from prison on Sunday after a presidential pardon, posted jubilant pictures to his Twitter account Tuesday as he celebrated his freedom in Cyprus.

While thanking people for support during his ordeal, Greste reminded followers that help is needed for his still-imprisoned colleagues.

Greste is on his way back to Australia after spending more than 400 days in prison.
