SASKATOON – A man who attempted to evade Saskatoon police is now facing armed robbery charges. The 41-year-old man was arrested after hitting a light standard in the Caswell Hill neighbourhood early Friday morning.

It started when police were called to an off-sale in the 800-block of Central Avenue around 1:30 a.m. after an armed robbery. Staff told police a man armed with a handgun entered the store and then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Patrol officers then noticed a suspicious vehicle about 75 minutes later in the area of Avenue F and 33rd Street. They attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver took off, eventually crashing into a pole at Avenue C and 30th Street where he was taken into custody.

Along with allegations of robbing the off sale, investigators believe he was responsible for three other armed robberies in the city, including the Jan. 26 robbery of the Safeway on 33rd Street.
