Justin Bieber: ‘I’m not who I was pretending to be’

ABOVE: Justin Bieber seems to have had a kind of epiphany and what he’s said has a lot of people talking. Mike Drolet reports.

TORONTO — Justin Bieber admitted Wednesday night he has been acting “arrogant” and “conceited” for more than a year and wants people to know he is, in fact, “kind and gentle.”

“I’m not who I was pretending to be,” the 20-year-old Canadian pop star said in a video posted online.

“Often we pretend to be something we’re not as a cover-up of what we’re truly feeling inside. There was a lot of feelings going on in there.”

Bieber said growing up is hard — but it’s harder in the public eye.

“I really want people to know how much care, how much I care about people,” Bieber said. “I’m not that person to say that I don’t give a f***. I’m not that kid. I’m a person who genuinely cares.”

Bieber made headlines last year for bad public behaviour, including arrests on both sides of the border.

“Although what’s happened in the past has happened, I just want to make the best impression on people and be kind and loving and gentle and soft,” the singer said.

“That’s how my mom raised me.”

Bieber will mark his 21st birthday in March by getting roasted by celebrities for a Comedy Central special.
