Oilers to announce new home for farm team

EDMONTON — The Oilers, and the American Hockey League, are going to California.

At a media conference Thursday in San Jose, it will be announced that the Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks are forming a “California Conference” in the AHL.

Representatives from each team will be in attendance, including vice chair of the Oilers Entertainment Group, Kevin Lowe.

The Oilers AHL team will play out of Bakersfield – about a two-hour drive from Los Angeles. The facility in Bakersfield has a capacity of 8,732.

The Oilers recently took ownership of their ECHL team playing out of Bakersfield – the Condors.

The Oilers AHL team in Oklahoma City will make the transition to Bakersfield and cease operations in OKC.
