California woman sentenced for trying to cut off husband’s penis

An elderly woman from Palm Springs, California was sentenced Friday for trying to cut off her husband’s penis.

The incident dates back to 2011 when, according to the arrest warrant, Virginia Valdez was performing a sexual act on her husband when all of a sudden she grabbed a pair of kitchen scissors and cut his penis.

Cesar Valdez required four stitches to heal the wound.

Virginia Valdez pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced to three years probation, 420 hours of community service and received a 10 year restraining order from her now ex-husband.

Represented by high-profile attorney Gloria Allred, Cesar Valdez spoke to media outside of the courthouse.

He says he is not only a victim of domestic violence, but also a victim of a double standard.

He believes if the roles were reversed, the case would have moved much more quickly through the system.

“As time went on it became obvious that I had to have the fortitude to have this message across because it simply is not right,” he told KMIR. “My case should not have dragged this much.”

Allred, wielding a pair of scissors similar to those used in the attack, commended Cesar for going public with his story.

“I think he’s really helped a lot of people by demonstrating the kind of courage that he has,” she said.
