White Point Beach Resort fire not suspicious: RCMP

WHITE POINT, N.S. – Police say the cause of a spectacular fire that destroyed a popular beach resort in Nova Scotia does not appear to be suspicious.

RCMP say police investigators and the fire marshal’s office have both examined the charred remains of White Point Beach Resort near Liverpool.

While the precise cause of the fire remains undetermined, officials say the blaze began in the basement.

The fire Saturday afternoon in the 82-year-old resort’s main lodge destroyed the wooden structure.

Owner Robert Risley has said he’ll rebuild.

Roughly 100 full- and part-time employees are affected by the closure.
