NORTH BATTLEFORD, Sask. – A man has been charged after Mounties were assaulted Tuesday evening. RCMP say the assault happened after the man became violent in police cells in North Battleford, Sask.

It started when officers were called to a home in the 1300-block of 109th Street just before 7:30 p.m. Mounties were told two drunk men were causing problems and had chased one resident out of the house.

Officers took the pair into custody. The 27-year-old man became violent once at police cells, assaulting another prisoner and members who intervened.

He is now facing charges of assault, assaulting a police officer and mischief under $5,000. The unnamed man is scheduled to appear in North Battleford provincial court Wednesday morning.

The second man, also 27, is not facing any charges and will be released from custody once he is sober.
