Winnipeg cat owners must get pet licences or face fines

Owners of unlicensed cats in Winnipeg face fines of up to $250.

WINNIPEG – A warning for Winnipeg cat owners about pet licences.

Starting New Year’s Day, the city can fine people up to $250 if they don’t have a licence for their furry friend.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The licence costs $15 if the animal is fixed or $50 if the kitty is intact.

Part of the money goes to spay and neuter programs to help control the cat population.

Cat licences are available online, at most pet stores or by calling the city’s 311 phone number.
