WATCH: A volunteer group dedicated to the cause during the holiday season is now making an appeal for more designated drivers. Jennifer Palma reports.
If you don’t have plans for New Year’s Eve and want to help others, Operation Red Nose is looking for you.
The service, which has volunteers drive a person’s vehicle home for them, kicked off last month ahead of the holiday season and is looking for additional drivers on one of the busiest party nights of the year.
The service is by donation with money going to youth sports organizations.
A spokesperson says they have provided more than 6,100 rides this season.
If you want to help on New Year’s Eve, you need to apply by Monday, Dec. 29 in order to have a criminal record check done in time.
For more information, go to the Operation Red Nose website.
Those who hope to use the service can arrange a ride at 1-877-RED-NOSE.
Meanwhile, Vancouver cab companies are hoping that a new app will make life easier for those wanting to take a car in the early hours of 2015.
