More snow for Similkameen and Coquihalla

It’s the final weekend before Christmas and one of the busiest travel times of the year. Expect a lot more traffic on area highways as travelers head to their Christmas destinations, but depending on where you’re driving, you can also expect a significant amount of snowfall.

A winter storm is forecast for parts of the Southern Interior, with more snow on the way for the Similkameen and on the Coquihalla. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement, warning Highway 5 (Coquihalla) and Highway 3 (Hope-Princeton) are in for heavy snow throughout the day Sunday, with upwards of 10 – 20 centimeters to continue to fall overnight.

“A moist and unstable onshore flow will continue to affect Coquihalla summit and Allison Pass through tonight,” according to Environment Canada. “Snow at times heavy will continue near the summits [Sunday].”
