Year in review with Premier Christy Clark

In a year-end interview, Premier Christy Clark discussed major milestones and the events of 2014.

Here are some excerpts from the premier’s interview with Unfiltered’s Jill Krop on the following topics:

Site C dam project: “I think if we don’t do it now, it’ll never happen. We have an opportunity to get into the market right now. For those who would argue we should delay, I would say, well hang on with North American energy prices as low as they are for natural gas. The only way to preserve the jobs we have now and grow them in the gas business — export it at higher prices to Asia.”

LNG: “We’re really where we expected to be at about this point… watching what’s happening with oil, not great for Canada, not great for the world. But it will also free up some workforce in the oil sands if investment slows down that will also be a benefit to Petronas.”

Transit referendum — will the question get your approval? “Well, we’ve been working hard with [the mayors] on it. What we want to do is put forward the question they want to ask. Ultimately, it’s their question, their transit system, so we want to be true to their wish in that. Though we need to make sure it’s consistent with our demand that this not use any existing source of revenue and that it also fit within the province’s ability to administer it.”
