WINNIPEG – The driver in a fatal collision that closed down Lagimodiere Boulevard for hours Tuesday has been identified by friends and family.
Barry Johnson was killed in the collision after believed the load of scrap railway track his semi-trailer was carrying shifted, entered his cab and pinned him.
Friends and family took to social media to remember him.

“Barry was a special person who was always smiling, and made friends everywhere he went. I’ll miss him dearly,” read one Facebook posting.
“Sad news. Dear friend and riding buddy Barry Johnson was killed today while working. Rest in peace my friend,” read another.
Johnson slammed on the brakes of his tractor-trailer to avoid crashing into a four-vehicle collision 30 metres ahead of him.

The cars could be seen stopped a short distance ahead of Johnson’s semi in what appeared to have been a minor collision around 2:20 p.m. Police didn’t release information on the cause of that crash.
Johnson was killed instantly upon impact and pronounced dead at the scene.
A yellow tarp covered the cab of the truck.
Traffic unit investigators remained at the scene well into the night Tuesday.
